Paestum
affonda la sua storia agli albori della civiltà italica. I
coloni greci ne fecero un centro commerciale, artistico,
marinaro. Dal VII secolo a.C. in poi la sua storia si lega a
quella dei greci e poi dei romani ma furono proprio i greci ad
abbellirla ed ingrandirla con templi famosi di cui ancora oggi
possiamo ammirare l'antica ma sempre attuale bellezza.

history goes all the way back to the very beginning of italic
civilization. During the Greek colonial period it became a
commercial, artistic, and fishing center. From the VIIth century
b.C. on, its history was first linked to that of Greece, later
to Rome. The Greeks contributed much to the city's beauty and
size, they constructed famous temples, some of which can still
be seen today in their ancient but still impressive beauty.

geschichte von Paestum geht bis in die urzeiten der italischen
zivilisation zurück. Griechische siedler machten es zu einem
wichtigen handels, kunst und fischereizentrum. Ab dem VII.
jahrhundert v. Chr. verband sich seine geschichte zunächst eng
mit der griechenlands, später mit der römischen. Es waren die
griechen, die stadt vergrößerten und verschönerten durch die
konstruktion berühmter tempel. Einige davon können noch heute
in ihrer antiken -aber immer noch aktuellen- schönheit
bewundert werden.

è il nome romano dato all'antica città greca di Helea. Fondata
all'incirca nel 540 a.C.
Gli scavi archeologici hanno gradatamente riportato alla luce i
resti di quell'antica cittadina ed altri se ne stanno scoprendo,
come l'anfiteatro, Porta Rosa, unico esemplare di arco civile
greco.
Velia
is the Roman name for the ancient greek city of Helea, founded
about 540 b.C. archeological excavations have gradually
uncovered the remnants of this ancient place. Some structures
have just recently been discovered: the amphitheater, and the
Porta Rosa gate, the only surviving example of a Greek civic
arch.
Velia ist der römische name der antiken griechischen stadt
Helea, die um 540 v. chr. gegründet wurde. Nach und nach
brachten archäologische ausgrabungen bedeutende reste der
antiken altstadt wieder ans licht. Erst vor kurzem wurden so das
amphiteather und die Porta Rosa, das einzige noch existierende
beispiel eines griechischen zivilbogens, wieder entdeckt.
